Sorry, everyone! I had started to write about Fleischman's Dateline Troy (Candlewick, 1996) and got sidetracked all by myself in writing the previous message. That's what happens when one names a subject without writing the message first. We keep learning. I'll come back to Dateline: Troy. Let's keep on with Joyful Noise and I Am Phoenix for just a bit longer. Is there anyone out there who served on the Newbery Committee that awarded Joyful Noise the Newbery Medal? If yes, please share any insights you have as to why these poems we seem to be enjoying so much were judged to be distinguished literature. Thanks, Ginny (gmkruse at ccbc.soemadison.wisc.edu)
