Dateline: Troy - again!

Who has seen and/or read Dateline Troy (Candlewick, 1996)? If you have, what are your experiences with Paul Fleischman's 33 sound bite passages through which he alternately rewrites The Iliad and presents collages of newspaper fragments reporting 20th century strife: warfare, murders terrorist acts, celebrity scandals, human rights abuses, corruption, sexism, abandonment - and more. Do you think Fleischman ran too great a risk by demonstrating his remarkable versatility as a writer by reworking a classic by Homer in this way? In your opinion, did he succeed? ...
