I'm sure many librarians would suggest SLAKE'S LIMBO by Felice Holman as a compelling novel for children concerning a homeless boy. The boy lives for over one month in the New York City subway. This book was turned into a Wonderworks television movie, but the movie has a different title. It stars Charles S. Dutton as the disabled Vietnam Vet who befriends Slake. I think the book is a real page-turner. Penny Peck San Leandro Public Library, CA Pikly at aol.com
