Wow! That was really well said.
Just for the record, in my library, we still have traditional story time with no games. I feel that's my main role. Some children have a hard time getting used to it, but almost all have learned to listen pretty well. I think the skill of listening to a linear story (the best kind, to me) is critically important to the development of young children.
