As a new subscriber Rob Reid's posting encouraged me to speak up. I don't understand why so many people are surprised by the Golem winning the Caldecott. It was my pick as soon as I saw it and I was surprised it was not on more lists. As for non-fiction and the Newbery, I think the committees in the last six years at least have tried very hard to look carefully at non-fiction. This year was such a strong year for fiction that I thought the winner and honor books were natural choices. All the books are strong ones too. I was fascinated with the fact that only 1 title made all 8 lists (is there anyone who does not love Lilly?) and hope Rob compiles his list next year. Amy Kellman
