On the Newbery front, I feel more qualified to discuss my picks because I took the leading contenders according to all of your choices in the various discussion groups around the country--thank you for weeding things out for me--and I got hold of most of the books, except for Farmer's, which I am looking forward to.
Of those I read, I agree with Stacy, JIP seemed the most powerful to me. I too really cared about those characters. I thought Konigsberg's book was clever, and maybe I've read too many of those books about "gifted" children, but this one just didn't seem to rise above the rest. But I am sure kids will like it.
