My favorite book of poems for young adults is the recent Arnold Adoff book Slow Dance Heart Break Blues (Lothrop, Lee, 1995). He captures the essence of adolescence in these orginal poems. We are having a Poetry Club assignment in our Young Adult Literature class this semester where we just read poems to each other without worrying about grading. By the way, what's a Poetry Slam? (Old coot! I suppose I should ask my 15 year old...) My all-time favorite poem is "Ex?sketball Player" by John Updike. This works well for high school kids who are taking a peek into their future.
