Good morning!
I have a few questions I would like to pose for discussion.
When you are reading reviews of children's books, do you expect to find out if the book contains stereotypes of minority or ethnic cultures?
Do you consider such judgements as "aesthetic" or "socio political?"
Do you think the two can or should be separated?
If you think they are socio political, do you think they should not be included in the review?
I ask because I am struggling with these issues as an individual who reviews children's books. If I note a book contains stereotypes, can or should I give the book a lower rating based on that judgement? Or should the rating be based solely on aesthetic and literary qualities? Should I include information that the book contains stereotypes?
