Greetings all!. I have been lurking on CCBC-Net for a few years now and I have not posted a message prior. Just a brief introduction, I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the School of Library and Information Science. I teach the youth services courses in addition to the school library media courses. I don't want to belabor the point of classroom assignments. But I think the students need a clarification. I also have my graduate students subscribe to listservs as a part of the learning process. But I also list the listservs and the purpose of each listserv. CCBC-Net to my understanding is a Discussion list and there are assigned topics each month. It is not a forum to post questions regarding course assignments. On my syllabus, I place a "Warning" label stating that
"the lists are for discussion of professional issues, literature, etc. They are NOT provided to help you with assignments; that is the purpose of our class meetings and discussions."

I think other instructors need to be aware of the purpose and forum of each listserv and inform their students accordingly.
