Please share this announcement with anyone who might be interested:
"Radical Change: Books Open to the 21st Century" is the theme of a Children's and Young Adult Literature Conference to be held on April 4-5, 1997, at the Wisconsin Center and elsewhere on the University of Wisconsin - Madison campus.
Conference speakers and panelists include Marc Aronson, Avi, Sharon Creech, David Diaz, Eliza T. Dresang, Barbara Elleman, Lillian Gerhardt, Nikki Giovanni, Robie H. Harris, Kathleen T. Horning, Margaret Jensen, Ginny Moore Kruse, Kate McClelland, Kyoko Mori, Judith O'Malley, Chris Raschka, Roger Sutton, Joan R. Thron, Tim Valdez and Jacqueline Woodson.
Everyone attending the conference will choose one Interest Group; these presentations are outlined on the flyer. The Interest Group leaders are Anne Lundin, Virginia A. Walter, Sandi Cornelius, Judith O'Malley, Jane Behrens & Laura Holt, John M. Kean, Megan Schliesman and Glennette Tilley Turner.
The conference schedule includes book discussion groups, speaker conversation groups, and other opportunties to explore the theme of Radical Change.
Before she moved from Madison to Florida State University, Eliza T. Dresang worked with the conference planners to develop this exciting conference based on a course she developed and taught at UW-Madison and a book to be published by H.W. Wilson. According to Dr. Dresang, radically changing books on the brink of the 21st Century are: 1) breaking barriers with accurate, previously unavailable information; and/or 2) creating connections for, between, among, and within young people everywhere; and/or 3) displaying digital design through nonlinear, multilayered, graphically presented words and sophisticated pictures while maintaining the comfort of a hand-held book and the pleasure of a well?veloped narrative. Join the journey and explore the evolution of literature for children and young adults. We'll hope to see many people in the CCBC-NET community on campus in real time on April 4 and 5!
For a flyer with complete details or for other information about the conference, contact Jane Pearlmutter, Outreach Program Manager, School of Library & Information Studies, University of Wisconsin Madison, phone 608/262c98 or send e-mail (jpearl at macc.wisc.edu).
