Greetings to all... Allow, please, a plug for a pair of books I don't think I've yet seen mentioned. The first is *The Juggler* by John Morressy
(pub. by Holt). I'll admit that my first attraction to the book was the title, being a juggler myself. But once I started reading...wow! It is the story of a boy in medieval times who makes a deal with the Devil to be the best juggler in the world. The reader is invited into the inner struggles of the juggler and is witness to an engrossing battle between good and evil. I think it will work well with older children and certainly with YAs. The feelings evoked and the well crafted moral struggle reminded me a bit of Poe, actually. And at the other end of the spectrum, there is *Aunt Nancy and Old Man Trouble* by Phyllis Root, illus. by David Parkins (pub. Candlewick). Aunt Nancy, wiser than she looks, encounters Old Man Trouble standing on her porch and frustrates him to no end with her "innocent" responses to his attempts at annoying her. The illustrations accurately represent the text's characterization of the two parties and clearly let the reader know who actually has the upper hand. While the illustrations do add to the story, the text is one that cries to be memorized and told as an oral story during a library program. As a side note, if an award was offered for drawing great teeth, David Parkins would certainly win for the dental work of Old Man Trouble!
