On December 6 school and public librarians in WaukeshaCounty met for a rousing discussion and mock Newbery Caldecott election. (8 books had previously been nominated in each category) The winners were: Mock Newbery to The Ballad of Lucy Whipple by Karen Cushman and Honors to The Music of Dolphins by Karen Hesse, Belle Prater's Boy by Ruth White and The Apprenticeship of Lucas Whitaker by Cynthis DeFelice. And the Mock Caldecott to Sam and the Tigers by Julius Lester, illustrated by Jerry Pinkney and Honors to Wilma Unlimited by Kathleen Krull, ilustrated by David Diaz and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs by Sam McBratney, illustrated by Ivan Bates. I would be glad to share information on coordinating a mock discussion/election. It is so great for youth librarians to get together and talk BOOKS. Of course that's what this list serve is all about, but it's even better in person. Happy Holidays Everyone!
