After all the discussion here about
I have been pondering this same thought since I heard some of the discussion surrounding these new books earlier this summer on another list. My Better Homes and Gardens Storybook was inscribed for my second Christmas in 1954. I loved the story of LBS. To me it was a story about a kid who dressed sharp and was so very smart! I envied LBS his wardrobe AND his brains. Although I lived in a (then) all white village outside of Milwaukee and saw African Americans only when on shopping trips, I believe it provided me with a positive picture of an African American family with a neat kid!
I think I like Sam, too!
