I had to share a comment my (then) three year-old made when reading Pretend You're a Cat. We had just finished reading it and looking at the wonderful parallels between the animals and kids pictured when he said, "we've got to write this guy and tell him how much we like his pictures!" Sadly, I never followed up on this comment and wrote Mr. Pinkney but I consider that the ultimate compliment from a kid.
The poetry in this book is spare and engaging; Jerry Pinkney's pencil and watercolor drawings make it enchanting! It has been a favorite with my children and any class I have ever read it to!
