The purpose of CCBC-Net is to provide a forum for discussion of children's and young adult literature. Each month we select books or topics we believe to be of current interest, based on our interactions with teachers, librarians, university faculty and students, and children's books editors, authors and illustrators. We are always open to suggestions from CCBC-Net subscribers, and many of you have contacted the CCBC directly to suggest topics. We are also always open to any feedback you can give us on the sorts of books we select to discuss. Should they be new books? Books that have been out at least a year? Books that have stood the test of time? We try to vary this from month to month, just as we try to vary age level and genre. Thanks to all of you who have provided us with this sort of constructive criticism over the past year. Please continue to contact Ginny, Megan or me directly to let us know what you think and to recommend future topics.
Today a number of subscribers have contacted us directly to ask us if there is any way we can PLEASE stop this divisive argument over lists. All I can do is to reiterate the stated purpose of CCBC-Net (as above) and give you a list of listservs that regularly offer exchanges of lists.
Claudia Backus made mention of PUBYAC as a listserv on which children's librarians regularly exchange information, such as recommended titles and issues in library services to children and teens. There are also a few other children's literature listservs that I can recommed to people who are especially interested in this sort of professional exchange. I will post the information here for anyone who is interested.
