May: Biographies and Autobiographies

The CCBC receives almost all of the books published for children and young adults from U.S. publishers immediately after the initial publication date.
On CCBC-NET during May we will take a look at biographies for children and young adults. Along with everyone who uses the CCBC on a walk-in basis, Megan Schliesman, Kathleen Horning and I have a unique opportunity to examine new biographies and to compare formats as well as subjects with other recently published biographies in the CCBC Current Collection. We can also make comparisons with previously published biographies of note and interest; most of those can be found in the CCBC Basic Collection. Biographies for young readers have changed significantly during the past decade(s).
If you teach at any level, or are involved with children or teenagers in a school or public library, or if you review - you, too, are developing opinions and making comparisons about biographies published recently or earlier for young readers. Please begin thinking about what you've noticed lately and about notable biographies you've read in the past.
CCBC Librarian Megan Schliesman will facilitate the May CCBC-NET discussion of biography and autobiography. Megan will launch the discussion by commenting on the book An American Hero; The True Story of Charles A. Lindbergh by Barry Denenberg (Scholastic, 1996). Please get ready to join in. ... Ginny
