Somersaulting in Scooter!

I'm always exuberant after reading Vera Williams' books, but for me, the most powerful scene in any of her books is towards the end of
"Scooter", when Petey initiates a somersaulting "race". To me it symbolizes the wonderfully subversive potential of kids to push the limits of an adult world. Has anyone, using "Scooter" with kids, had reactions to this scene from kids?
