Hi everyone. I kept writing messages about Slot Machine and they kept coming back. so hopefully this one will make it through. If the other messages show up, tell them to take a hike. I finished Slot Machine two nights ago and really enjoyed it. I do think Lynch exaggerated the setting, but as far as the pressure to belong to a slot for young males, it was right on - at least 20 years ago. When I entered high school, there was an incredible pressure to try out for at least one sport. No one ever pressured anyone to try out for drama, art or anything like that. And I had a very good friend to pulled the Frank thing. He kept trying to be one of the cool crowd. And they let him hang around him, but they constantly humiliated him. And he kept going back to them. And he didn't understand why I wouldn't go on their adventures. SO Lynch nailed that young male experience on the head. Thanks Megan, for that nice booktalk on Saturday that made me pick up the book.
