Have you read the young adult novel Slot Machine by Chris Lynch
(HarperCollins, 1995)? Have you stopped laughing yet? weeping? How close is Slot Machine to certain realities of male adolescence?
While we were discussing Slot Machine at the CCBC one afternoon last year, one woman described it as "notes from the Planet Boy." During the same discussion, a male reader was astonished that many of the women there that day had taken some of the episodes in Slot Machine so literally; he understood Lynch's depiction of male teen peer pressure as exaggeration.
Have you heard comments from any teen readers of Slot Machine?
What are your own questions? comments? Speak up!
