Hi--just a response to Nina's comment. I have never served on the Caldecott committee. My comments re: Swamp Angel, Smoky Night, Grandfather's Journey, and Officer Buckle are all from the "outside."
I did serve on the 1995 Newbery Award Committee, charied by KT Horning. Our medal winner was WALK TWO MOONS, and I wasn't sure about anything until it was all over! However, one year later, I am still proud of our decisions!
