I was quite surprised by the choice of Gloria and Officer Buckle for the Caldecott. Having seen Peggy Rathmann at our local bookstore in Nov. it was a pleasant surprise. She's a delightful and very funny woman who did a marvelous presentation. However, I am not sure that I would classify the book as distinguished. It's not controverisal like Smoky Night was. In fact, I haven't heard anyone "complain" about the choice as I did last year. It's a picture book. It's solid and well done. It's certainly one which will be enjoyed by many. But distinguished???
