CCBC Choices is an annual publication of the Friends of the CCBC. This booklet features a selection of the best books of the year as determined by the professional staff of the Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC), i.e. Megan Schliesman, Kathleen Horning and Ginny Moore Kruse. CCBC Choices 1995 will be published on March 9, 1996.
     CCBC Choices 1995 features 197 books for children and young adults, 125 of which did not appear on any nationally distributed or announced list of best books of the year as of 2/2/96. CCBC Choices 1995 is an 80-page booklet annotated by the authors and indexed by Tana Elias. CCBC Choices includes the authors' observations about children's and young adult books in general during 1995, books with multicultural themes and topics, and translated books. CCBC Choices also contains information about the Cooperative Children's Book Center.
     To secure a copy of CCBC Choices 1995: A) if you are are member of the Friends of the CCBC, you will receive an invitation to the March 9th publication day events at which you will receive a complimentary copy (see #1-4 below); B) if you are a member of the Friends of the CCBC and cannot come to any of the March 9th events, you will receive a complimentary copy in the mail soon after that date; C) copies will be provided to School of Education colleagues & students and others at UW-Madison via interdepartmental mail; D) anyone - Wisconsin residents and others alike - may come to the CCBC after March 9th to get a complimentary copy; E) Wisconsin residents: get one copy of CCBC Choices 1995 by mail by sending $3.00 (check payable to: Friends of the CCBC) for postage and handling to: Publications, Friends of the CCBC, Box 5288, Madison, WI 53705; F) if you are not a Wisconsin resident: get one copy of CCBC Choices 1995 by mail by sending $6.00 (or the equivalent of $6.00 U.S. currency) to the Friends of the CCBC (see E above); G) the UW-Madison School of Education provides complimentary copies of CCBC Choices to SoE alums. Contact: Alumni Coordinator Kathy Boebel, 427 Education Building, 100 Bascom Mall, Madison, WI 53706; and H) Wisconsin public library systems often provide copies of CCBC Choices for each member school and library. Ask the youth services coordinator for your public library system about this.
     On Saturday, March 9, the Friends of the CCBC will host four events. Friends' members may attend the event(s) of their choice. Memberships may be secured and renewed at the door that day. 1) a morning presentation of commentary on trends and selected books for older readers (grade 5 and up) in the CCBC; 2) a catered luncheon in 4207 Helen White Hall - reservations are required; to reserve a space contact Kathy Tessmer (608/274c39 long distance calls will be returned as collect calls) do not contact the CCBC for a luncheon reservation; 3) annual Friends business meeting including the election of directors in 4207 Helen White Hall; and 4) an afternoon presentation of commentary of trends and selected books for young children (preschool - grade 4) in the CCBC.
     For information about membership in the Friends of the CCBC, get a membership form from the CCBC or write to the Friends (address: see E above).
     The books featured in CCBC Choices 1995 will be available in a hands-on exhibit in the CCBC beginning March 11 (exceptions: when the staff is using some of these books with students & others with prior appointments, and when these books will used in off?mpus CCBC information and program services). If you plan to come to the CCBC from off?mpus especially to see books in CCBC Choices, we recommend that you contact the CCBC in advance to make certain that the books in CCBC Choices 1995 will be available that day for your use.
