I just read _The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963_. What intrigued me from the very beginning were both the title of the book and the titles of the chapters. From "And You Wonder Why We Get Called the Weird Watsons" to "The World?mous Watson Pet Hospital", juxtaposed with the dedication to the four children who died that day in the church bombing in Birmingham, these titles indicated to me, the reader, that the tragedy and civil rights issues would be presented in the context of a loving family's experiences. I knew this strong family foundation would help buffere me, the reader, through the reality of the grave social inequities that existed that time.
