Just as the Caldecott Discussion is heating up, I'm popping in to remind you that we welcome discussion of the 1996 Newbery Medal winners this week as well. Were you surprised with the Newbery choices, as many people were with the Caldecott? I heard lots of good discussion at the ALA Midwinter conference about two of the Honor Books: "What Jamie Saw" by Carolyn Coman and "The Watsons Go to Birmingham -- 1963" by Christopher Paul Curtis. Has anyone else had a chance to read either of them? Let us know what you think!
