Protecting Marie

My reading of Protecting Marie brought many of the same thoughts that Anne expressed so well. I really loved the book and found it most believable. It also made me want to shake all of them up and give them a good talking to. I do remember my mother telling us what a hard day my dad had had at work ( elementary teacher!) and all of us walking on eggshells around him. I think that was the 50's mentality and probably still is in many households today. In fact, I recognized many behaviors in Henry that I saw in my father and he was in his early 30's when I was Fanny's age. Ellen's behavior, the protecting and covering for Henry, also reminded me of my mother.

The more I think about this book, the better it gets. Not easier, but better. Will this book appeal to preteens, teens? I'm not sure. But it certainly hooked me. Surely wish I could see the exhibit.
