The outcomes of the CCBC Coretta Scott Book Award Discussion: Illustration were not as conclusive as those for the CCBC CSK Writing Discussion. (See my previous message, also posted on 12/18) After one ballot was taken, four books - each quite different from the other - were cited for a variety of reasons. The participants appreciated many other books, too. Because we did not have adequate time to resolve the lack of a conclusive majority, the outcomes are less convincing than those for the CCBC CSK: Writing Discussion. But these outcomes do represent certain aspects of the evening's discussion. One other thing: the CCBC discussion lists were developed before we had a chance to see most of the eligible books of 1995.

* Just in case you did not read or get to the end of the previous message, basic eligibility for this award requires that illustrator is African-American. For other information about this important award, please see: The Coretta Scott King Awards Book; From Vision to Reality edited by Henrietta M. Smith (ALA, 1994). The actual award will be selected by a jury appointed by the chair of the Coretta Scott King Awards Task Force and it will be announced on January 22 at the ALSC/ALA Press Conference in San Antonio. We'll post the results of this and other ALA award outcomes on CCBC-NET that day. Cheers, Ginny
