I think _The Midwife's Apprentice_ would be a good title for 7th and 8th grade students (girls) and reluctant readers in 9th and 10th grade (girls).
YA students can relate to both the birthing process and the birth of Alyce because they want to know more about the lives of women through history and because they seek any information about womanhood. Psigmond at aol.com
