Regarding the grade level of Midwife's Apprentice: It seems to fit 6th grade very well. Also, because the 6th grade curriculum in Calif. covers the Middle Ages, I think it could be used in schools, the way Konigsburg's A Taste of Scarlet... is used now. Even though it is only a minor point, I wanted to mention the nice bookmaking of Midwife's Apprentice and Catherine, Called Birdy. Both have embossed bookcovers and very attractive dust jackets. Just a little thing that helps sell the book! Penny Peck San Leandro Public Library, CA
