I think creating the point of view of characters is one of Mildred Taylor's strong suits--it has been especially striking to me in the story The Friendship. There each of the sibling's has a distinctive personality and response to the events at the store. We even get the points of view of the community through Cassie (that Mr. Tom B may be getting out of hand) and we even see the situation of John the storekeeper clearly from his point of view.

The Well is similar--Ma Rachel's point of view is especially important, it adds even more historical context as we see the roots of the current expression of racism in her own life.

Also, she has kept David's point of view consistent with what those who have experienced him as Cassie's father know.
