The Friends of the CCBC have permission from Sharon Creech to publish a limited edition copy of her Madison speech for distribution as a gift to Friends' members during 1996. The Friends Board of Directors have two budget planning meetings on the calendar, after which they will know if they can publish this gift for members. If they do, the publication would probably appear in February or March, 1996. (The Friends have published other speeches in previous years, not annually, but often, and the publications have been well designed and handsomely printed.) Soooo - at this time, we don't know, Carla. But I, too, hope that this marvelous speech will be available to others.
Anyone wanting information about membership in the Friends of the CCBC may contact me by e-mail, and I'll provide it. (Ginny's e-mail: gmkruse at ccbc.soemadison.wisc.edu) Friends' memberships received after October 1 always count for the full calendar year to follow.
It's possible that sometime Sharon Creech will arrange to have her Madison speech published in a journal or elsewhere but this would not preceed a Friends' publication, assuming there is one. If the speech is subsequently published elsewhere, it's customary to have a note indicating where/when it was first presented. Meanwhile, do others have comments and responses about meeting Sharon or hearing her speak on Oct. 22? Ginny Moore Kruse
Hello! Is there any way those of us who were not able to be in Madison last weekend (much tho we would have loved to be there) can see a copy of Sharon Creech's talk?
I'm looking forward to the Cushman discussion--couldn't find the time to read/reread past few authors, but have read MA and am hoping to contribute again!
