Immortality in children's fiction

A question unrelated to our discussion of Walk Two Moons:
I'm interested in the portrayal of immortality in children's fiction. I've found it depicted mostly negatively, which is interesting in an age so focused on youth and health, where medical advances continue to increase the average life span. Does anyone know of children's fiction that portrays immortality positively? Or of any research that discusses this issue?
