Robin raised some questions about Sharon Creech's nationality that I can answer. She is American. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to England around 1980, where she teaches British and American literature to teenagers at the American School in Surrey. Her husband, Lyle Rigg, is the school's headmaster and he, too, is from Ohio, although they met on their first day in England! They return to the U.S. ever summer to spend time at Lake Chautauqua in New York State. A post script: only U.S. citizens and residents are eligible for the Newbery and Sharon Creech definitely qualifies!
