Marge Loch-Wouters recently wrote about some of the reasons book discussion is important to her. Book discussion is the core of everything else the CCBC offers. We're delighted with the participation of everyone who posted comments so far this summer. We realize that many other CCBC-NET subscribers are actively involved in the discussion regardless of whether or not your comments are posted for all to read. The discussion of Walk Two Moons sparked with Sharon Creech's helpful background comments and lively interactions has not ended, even thought we'll also begin talking about The Haunting and The Changeover by Margaret Mahy. Invite others to join us...
Everyone is also welcome to participate in the discussions held in the physical environment of the CCBC. I'm listing the dates for you at the end of this message, in the event that you can be here for one or more of them.
We hold a two-hour general discussion of new books each month. In addition, during December, January and February, we'll have several annual award discussions during which participants will discuss some of the books eligible for certain awards according to the criteria for each award.
For a specific monthly discussion list send a addressed, stamped envelope to the CCBC or send e-mail to Megan Schliesman
(schlies at macc.wisc.edu) The annual award discussion lists will be available beginning November 1. Books to be discussed can be borrowed overnight or for a weekend.
Monthly CCBC discussions: Fridays, 3:30 - 5:30 pm (central time) on August 11, September 15, October 13 and November 3.
Annual CCBC Awards Discussions: Thurs., Nov. 30, Newbery or Caldecott, 6:00 - 10:00 pm CST Wed., Dec. 6, Coretta Scott King: Illustration, 6:00 - 10:00 pm CST Tues., Dec. 12, Coretta Scott King: Writing, 6:00 - 10:00 pm CST Thurs., Dec. 14, Newbery or Caldecott, 6:00 - 10:00 pm CST Fri., Jan. 12, Batchelder (translated literature), 3:30 - 5:30 pm CST Wed., Feb. 7, Americas (Latino literature), 6:00 - 10:00 pm CST
Happy reading and discussing! Ginny
